| A side deck is basically a stack of 15 cards which work well with your deck and counter other decks. | |

| They are cards that help you against certain decks, or personal tech choices that you will benefit from. They are used in game two/three of a match.
Some popular examples: Increasing G against any meta decks nowadays, Kycoo/D.D crow/Crevice into a DD/Soul Release/Transmigration Prophecy to stop/impede graveyard-based decks, Gemini Imp, a recent trend to stop DW decks (and to a lesser extent Gottoms in Sabers). Since there is only 15 slots, a side deck must be planned carefully; normally it is used against decks you/your deck is weak against.

| Cyber Dragon is used against Machine-based decks, Chimeratech is used so that you can fuse your Cyber Dragon with their machines for good advantage gain and a nice beatstick if used correctly.
Kycoo is used to control the opponents graveyard since they can't remove and you can remove if you deal damage to them. As for Imperial Iron Wall, I hardly see that sided.
For Snowman Eater, it is normally used against low attack decks due to its high defense and destruction effect, rendering you a +1.

| Grand Mole won't be a good choice as they have Chariot. Best would be using mass removal for their backrow, such as Malevolent Catastrophe, more MSTs, Dust Tornadoes. Or you could use Gozen Match since they don't share any attributes. | |

| Decree is also quite a good option these days as it locks down mass backrow for me quite often and Rai-oh is so good because it hurts so many meta decks these days such as agents, junk doppel, machina and etc. Another option for side deck cards is to put in cards inside the side deck to counter cards which people will side deck against you. For example raioh is a very common side decked card these days, however snowman eater is used by people not only as generic monster destruction but for the fact that it stops Rai-oh (well for me at least and the guy I learned it from). | |

| Raiou is the universal side deck card now. It kills almost everything in the meta . Royal decree is good in game 2 as it allows you to remove all unnecessary traps and put in extra stuff to counter your opponent decks and go for the kill easily.
A side deck can also be a transition side. For example, one player can play gravekeepers in game 1 and side deck into gladiator beast in game 2 as both deck share the same magic and trap build, just changing the monsters will do and your opponent will make a wrong side and ultimately losing the game unless your opponent has godlike luck (that's a different story, making an assumption only)
